Host City: San Francisco Bay Area

By the 1970s, the San Francisco Bay Area became home to the San Jose Earthquakes of the NASL. The Earthquakes were revived with the launch of Major League Soccer in 1996 and have since become a cornerstone of the Bay Area’s soccer identity, playing at PayPal Park in San Jose.
Today, the Bay Area boasts a vibrant soccer culture, fueled by diverse communities, strong youth programs, and a loyal fan base. The region has hosted numerous international friendlies and tournament matches, including games during the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the Copa América Centenario. As a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the Bay Area will host six matches, including group and Round of 16 ties, across June and July 2026.
